Bastar

My shadow shot for this week is from my archives.

It was late evening. The lighting was dim and I shot these pictures in a hurry on my way out after enjoying a good cup of coffee at the Clarke’s Hotel, Khajuraho.

Every region of India has its unique style of creative expression. Madhya Pradesh and its tribal art is famous, whether art that is directly created on the wall or metal art hung on the walls.

Here is an example of Bastar metal wall-hanging:

This wall hanging is made up of metal objects and has an antique look to it. I like the shadows these little animals have cast on the wall. What do you think?

Your reference to Khajuraho and Bastar (the region) took me back in time, to mid-1980s, when I was Times of India correspondent based in Bhopal.

With the shadows, those figures are doubly intricate!

SILLY SHADOW DITTY

Shadows may or may not be
Patterns of urbanity.
If a shadow threatens you,
Here, my dear, is what to do:
Grab the shadow by the throat,
Toss it to a billy goat,
So the goat can chomp and chew,
Keeping it away from you!

Love the artwork! Had I been looking at it without realising that shadows were part of the image I'd be a little worried about my eyesight! Some serious double vision happening here! Great capture!

Have a great week :)
