Sinai Sunset

Visit Mellow Yellow for more images in Yellow.
~~~
In Egypt, under Ptolemy II, a road was built linking Marsa Alam and Edfu and is still in use. Tourists wishing to travel on this route used to do that in convoys until the recent past, and probably still do.
Taxi operators need to take prior permission from the relevant authorities before transporting tourists.
I travelled on this road from Marsa Alam to Luxor one warm evening last year. This is a shot of the sunset viewed from the desert road along the Sinai.
Myriam,
I had your words translated, and thank you very much for the compliments. Have a lovely day.
Saibal,
Thank you.
The Sinai Peninsula is huge (estimated to be 60,000 sq.km.). This photo was shot during a journey in the desert while nearing Luxor.
The Mount Sinai you may be referring to is a mountain located in St Catherine City located in the Sinai Peninsula region.
I have seen the Mount Sinai as well in early 2009 winter time, after a fascinating road journey from Sharm El-Sheikh when I reached St. Catherine's. There is a picture of St. Catherine's monastery located at the base of Mount Sinai on my blog post here:
If you are asking about the Biblical Mount Sinai (of the Ten Commandments fame), then todate, it is not very clear if the Mount Sinai in St. Catherine's City is the same mentioned in the Bible or is a different one altogether. Many scholars are of the opinion that the biblical Mount Sinai is an ambiguously located mountain and is said to be in the region of modern Jordan, maybe near Petra, or modern Syria.
It must be amazing to travel that road imagining what it would have been like centuries ago.
The sky is very beautiful.
Hi Celine! You have to label this post as "Egypt" or "Sinai" so that I can click and devour some more. :-) It must have been quite magical!
