One Single Impression: Rest

The Humayun's Tomb is located in Nizamuddin East, Delhi. Humayun was the second of the so called six great Mughal emperors, and was the father of Akbar.

At Nizamuddin
Hamida Banu Begum
Ordered construction

A repository
For her beloved husband
And Akbar's father

Splendid edifice
On banks of Yamuna, with
Char bagh style gardens

The Emperor's tomb
With Mughal architecture
World Heritage Site

Humayun's Tomb is
Beautiful mausoleum
Where he's put to rest.

The prompt for this week at One Single Impression is Rest. More poetry can be found at One Single Impression.

An afterthought:

A great emperor
Maybe, but like all mortals
He too has to rest

Beautiful!Love the way you describe places with Haiku these days :)

Humayun ka Maqbara-reminded me of that song "Bol Na Halke Halke" from JBJ!

Beautiful. The words are new to me, and they are magical. Such places remind us how splendid life is.

Beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing and filling us in on some history.

I also read you "splogger" post. Thank you for that, I had not heard of this dishonest practice. I'm sorry you had to go through it. (I cannot believe that they also then copied your post about them being sploggers! What gall!)

Nice post and pics. I was watching other day a documentary on china's first empror who had built his tomb much before his death, a lavishing one. Initially i wondered they were crazy to do so, but then to look at positive side, atleast they leave behind such great art works of those times. In this time of focus on technology, we may never be able to create these kind of architecture. Dont you think so?

Sameera,

Thank you.:)
Hey, I love that groovy voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. I had another look at that video and the backdrop of historical monuments are fascinating. Could figure out glimpses of the Qutb Minar, the Juma Masjid, the Raisina Hill, the Red Fort, and also the Taj Mahal from a straw field.

Was Humayun's Tomb included too? I couldn't recognize one monument at the beginning of the song but I guess it wasn't Humayun ka Maqbara.

SandyCarlson,

Thank you very much.:)
Life is indeed beautiful. With such elaborate mausoleums, I get a feeling that they have showcased splendor after death too.

Roswila,

Thank you for your nice comment.:)
Sharing it is my pleasure. Haha..you see how those cunning sploggers can be also dumb!

It is,when he is showing her around and tells her that Humayun ka Maqbara is Taj Mahal, because he does not have enough money to take her to Agra :)

Ajeya,

Thank you.:)

You must be referring to Emperor Qin's tomb and the terrocota armies. I am really at a loss to opine on the need for elaborate tombs, but as those monuments of history are there for us to enjoy, so I do go, visit, and take delight in its marvel.

Kate,

I went there a long time back ... the city you live in, you take it completely for granted. Lovely pictures.

Mridula,

Thank you.I understand what you mean. I haven't been to all tourist spots here.

But in this case, in the last eight months, I passed by the Humayun's Tomb twice - Dec 2007 and Feb 2008, not to mention earlier visits.

Lovely photos and wonderfully informative haikus telling the history of these beautiful buildings.

Sorry about your Splogger experience. So sad that there are such creepy people out there.

No matter how grand we aspire to or achieve, in the end our rest is the same.

They too have a story to tell!
I liked the contrast in the first shot very much.

Very nice pictures! Unfortunately, when I lived in Delhi, I didn't visit these places much. Now I wish I had.

The nasty Sploggers are continuing to try to irritate me, but I refuse to be affected by them.*sigh*

As it's often described poetically, every brick of a monument has a story to tell.

This is an honorable and appropriate way to describe this tomb that looks like a palace.
